Water Heater Repair vs. Replacement
Water heaters typically last 10-12 years. If your unit is aging or malfunctioning, it might be time for a replacement. Here’s when to choose:
When to Repair
If your water heater is still relatively new and experiencing minor issues such as inconsistent water temperatures, unusual noises coming from the tank, or reduced efficiency, a professional repair may be all that’s needed to restore its functionality. Addressing these problems early can help prevent more significant issues down the line, extend the lifespan of your water heater, and save you money by avoiding a full replacement. Our team at Save 2 Day Plumbing specializes in diagnosing and fixing common water heater problems quickly and effectively, ensuring your system is back to working order in no time.
When to Replace
If your water heater is showing its age, frequently breaking down, or exhibiting signs of wear such as rust, corrosion, or persistent leaks, it may be time for a replacement. Older systems often struggle to meet your home’s hot water needs efficiently, leading to higher energy bills and increased maintenance costs. Upgrading to a new, energy-efficient water heater not only ensures a reliable supply of hot water but also reduces your long-term utility expenses. We’ll help you choose the right model for your home, install it professionally, and ensure it operates at peak performance for years.

Water Heater FAQ

What is the white substance around my showerheads and faucets?
The white residue is calcium buildup, which occurs when water is too hard. Installing a water softener from Save 2 Day Plumbing can eliminate this issue and help extend the life of your fixtures by preventing further buildup.
How does a hot water recirculation pump work?
A hot water recirculation system is a continuous loop of warm water that slowly circulates through the pipes from the hot water heater to the farthest fixture. This ensures that hot water is always available in the pipes, eliminating the wait time and water waste. As the water in the pipes begins to cool, the recirculation pump moves the hot water from the heater back through the pipes, maintaining a constant flow of hot water that’s instantly available for use.

Why doesn’t my water heater work as well as it used to?
This is often due to sediment buildup in the tank. Over time, sediment and lime deposits accumulate and block the heat transfer from the burner to the water. To improve efficiency, drain a gallon or so from your water heater every three months to remove sediment. You should also inspect the burner periodically - blue flames with yellow tips are normal, but a mostly yellow or sooty flame could indicate a clogged flue, which is dangerous. Contact a plumbing professional such as Save 2 Day Plumbing for a full inspection. We also recommend having your water heater checked at least every two years to ensure the drain valve is not
How does a tankless water heater work?
To understand how a tankless water heater works, it’s helpful to first know how a traditional tank heater operates. A conventional water heater stores a large amount of water in a tank and continuously heats it to maintain a constant temperature. This process, known as standby heat loss, uses energy to keep the water hot even when it’s not being used.
In contrast, a tankless water heater operates on demand. It heats water only when it’s needed, preventing standby heat loss, and improving energy efficiency. A powerful heat exchanger raises the water temperature as it flows through the unit. This heat exchanger works similarly to the one in your car’s radiator, transferring heat from electric coils to the water. When you turn on the hot water tap, the water flows through the exchanger and is heated instantly to your desired temperature.
